A Day in the Life of a Construction Estimator

As a Construction Estimator, you’ll play an essential role in ensuring accurate cost estimates and competitive bids for concrete and asphalt projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors, you’ll evaluate project scopes and costs to prepare winning proposals. Your work will directly contribute to the company's growth and reputation for quality.

Responsibilities include:

• Analyzing project specifications, blueprints, and contracts to determine cost estimates
• Preparing detailed cost breakdowns, including labor, materials, and equipment
• Conducting on-site visits and assessments to evaluate project conditions
• Soliciting and reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotes
• Utilizing estimating software to streamline cost calculations
• Collaborating with project teams to ensure competitive and profitable bids
• Tracking project costs vs. estimates to refine future bidding strategies
• Assisting in preparing change orders and cost adjustments as needed

Requirements and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in concrete, asphalt, or related fields
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Proficiency in estimating software (B2W Estimate, Digital Take-off, Procore, Construct Connect) and MS Office (Excel, Word)
• Strong understanding of concrete, asphalt, and general construction practices
• Excellent attention to detail with the ability to analyze blueprints and contracts
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with clients, subcontractors, and team members
• Problem-solving skills with a focus on cost-saving opportunities and optimizing bid strategies
