Description:
The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the installation of new cable lines, both underground and on utility poles, and also performs maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repair.
Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas, and perform other repairs as needed. This requires proficiency with fusion splicer and fiber test equipment.
Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH network.
Install and maintain network systems for private lines and determine solutions for any issues preventing the service from operating normally.
Initiate test and turn-up procedures with System Engineers in accordance with compliance standards.
Collect and interpret engineering documentation, including schematics, fiber management systems, and performance OTDR reports.
Support field maintenance teams, including IT, regional engineering teams, and other departments related to the fiber network.
Provide demand and preventive maintenance for fiber network & FTTH.
Maintain proper network documentation on changes and upgrades.
Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with third-party providers.
Work within the engineering team to ensure all connections are within required specifications.
Participate in an on-call schedule rotation as required.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or recognized equivalent required.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Must have an active and clean, non-restrictive, state-issued drivers license.
At least 3 years of hands-on field experience in fiber splicing, test equipment, and restoration.
Demonstrated proficiency using a fusion splicing machine.
Must understand the underlying theories and concepts of broadband communication, including fiber optics and Metro Ethernet networks.
Ability to use advanced test equipment like OTDRs, optical power meters, and other fiber testing tools.
SCTE certification is a plus.
Ability to work days, weekends, evenings, and holidays and participate in on-call rotation as needed.
